To ease into meditation and release anxiety, start with gentle movement or light exercise to prepare your body and mind. This could be a short walk, stretching, or yoga to loosen tension.
Begin by breathing naturally until you find a relaxed rhythm. Allow any sighs or yawns to surface and clear, then focus on long, slow exhalations to settle your breath. Your chest should feel open, and your breathing calm, signaling readiness to proceed.
Inhale through your nose for a count of nine, hold for three, then exhale for nine. Repeat this cycle five to nine times, adjusting as feels comfortable.
Next, engage your abdomen. As you inhale for a count of nine, gently pull your stomach inward. Hold for three, then exhale, releasing the abdominal muscles completely. If a shorter count feels better, try inhaling and exhaling for three counts each. Repeat this step three to five times, then relax.
Now, shift to breathing naturally through your navel, imagining the breath flowing in and out from the pit of your stomach. No muscle tension is needed—just breathe as you normally would, focusing on this sensation. As you settle into this rhythm, introduce a simple mental mantra: think “so” as you inhale and “hum” as you exhale. Continue this “so-hum” practice until your mind feels clear and your body fully relaxed.
You may notice mild lightheadedness or a warm sensation rising from the base of your spine toward your forehead, where the third-eye chakra is said to reside. This warmth is normal and often associated with deep relaxation. If lightheadedness becomes intense, pause the structured breathing exercises and focus solely on natural breathing with the “so-hum” mantra.
Your mind is now primed for deeper exploration—whether it’s engaging with a mystical practice, studying, creating art, writing code, or preparing for a presentation or negotiation. This meditation technique is a powerful tool to center yourself for any endeavor requiring focus and presence.
Make this a daily practice to cultivate calm and clarity. Keep exploring and let your inner spark shine!
